Kara Walker's "A Subtlety"

On Sunday, June 29th  2014 I decided to visit the old Domino Sugar factory in Williamsburg for the Kara Walker exhibit. This was originally planned as a date, but felt the need to go alone. After a fairly short wait on a massive line, I finally walked into the building. I was immediately met with an intense smell of burnt sugar. It was quite pungent and as I walked around, never let me forget just where I was. As I took it all in one couldn't help but notice all the people there taking what I felt as disrespectful photos with the Marvelous Sugar Baby. Pointing up to her ass and smiling, taking selfies in front of her bosom. It made me angry to witness such a thing, but at the same time really sad. How could people be so damn immature? On a positive note; I thought all of the statues were hauntingly beautiful. The boys made of molasses really got to me, because I saw my son in them. I saw myself in them.
